Fully Integrated Rear Entertainment System now available as factory fit on Land Rover Discovery 3. Factory fitted system allows front seat occupants the ability to control rear seat viewing options and functions
Land Rover’s Discovery 3 now comes with the option of an Alpine fully integrated rear seat entertainment system. The system, only available as a factory fit includes a six disc DVD player offering hours of endless playback and twin screens allow each occupant to view or listen to their own source. Fully integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment network, the system also offers ‘Supervisory Mode’ allowing front seat occupants to control the rear seat viewing source and functions. The feature gives for example, parents the option to select and operate discs for younger children and monitor what source is being watched at any time.
Securely mounted in the front headrests, the two 6.5 inch widescreen displays can be operated independently allowing rear passengers to enjoy independent viewing options. For example one can be watching a DVD while another plays on a games console connecting via auxiliary inputs.
The system has been co-developed between Land Rover and infotainment specialists Alpine. Working together has resulted in a system that offers higher levels of integration, security and safety than some aftermarket systems on offer.
“The components are securely fitted, tested and designed specifically for Land Rover,” says Alpine’s OEM manager Keith Price. “This allows us to eliminate many of the problems of safety, interference and usability of aftermarket solutions that customers don’t like. The bespoke software allows front seat passengers control of the system too, increasing convenience and avoiding unnecessary stops to turn the system on or change DVD. It all helps to make the journey a little more pleasant.”
Engineers have paid close detail to all aspects of the system including viewing angle and brightness of the screens, control functions and even capability off-road. The system, fully tested in line with Land Rover’s rigorous programme, follows similar Rear Seat Entertainment products already available in Range Rover and Range Rover Sport and will be available to order from Land Rover on Discovery 3 from November 2007.
